Oceans Alive Scallops plant #1 is located in the south terminal of New Bedford's working waterfront. The building was completely renovated in 2007 and is now divided into two separate operations: our fish division and our frozen and value added division.
Our rapidly growing fish division is where fresh and frozen fish is filleted, processed and packed on a daily basis. Whether you need a 10 lb box for local pickup or several thousand lbs shipped to the west coast the Oceans Alive Scallops team make sure that each and every order is packed to order and delivered on time.
Plant #1 also houses our frozen and value added operations. In addition to our IQF cryogenic tunnel freezer we also house a state-of-the-art plate freezer which can reduce bulk freeze times by up to 60% versus a standard blast freezer.
Our value added operation is the newest edition to Oceans Alive Scallops. Testing is currently underway and our initial product launch is scheduled for fall 2011.
Plant #2 is home to the scallop division and our now famous Oceans Alive Scallops blue can. In addition to the large cooler and blast freezer visitors to Plant #2 may be surprised to see people, as opposed to machines, grading and packing each scallop.
Led by veteran scallop man Scott "Bugzy" Bisaillon all product is hand graded upon entry into the plant and again prior to shipping your orders. This process eliminates pieces and produces orders containing whole, usable scallops. Additionally, each lot is tested for moisture as well as cooked to ensure that the highest quality scallops are received by our customers. With each order you receive your salesman has already "tested" the product the old fashioned way; by eating it!
In addition to our detailed grading program Plant #2 undergoes daily sanitary testing to ensure that all orders not only meet but exceed HACCP requirements. These processes, performed by an outside laboratory, maintain Oceans Alive Scallops commitment to provide our customers with the finest quality products and services available in the seafood industry today.
Finally, Plant #2 is home to all of our executive, administration, sales and office staff. With offices that overlook the production floor each staff member has a direct view of every incoming lot and outgoing order. This helps maintain a direct contact with our packing team further ensuring a quality product and service.
Historic Homers Wharf is where it all began for Oceans Alive Scallops. From 2006 - 2007 all buying, selling, packing and vessel unloading was done exclusively here. With rapid growth and the need for expanding operational facilities, however, Homers Wharf is now used for the sole purpose of vessel unloading. With deep water access and the ability to unload a multitude of vessels Homers Wharf maintains our direct access to the waterfront and to the boats who harvest the ocean.
